Managing People and Organizations

Sharpen your diagnostic and problem-solving skills for organizational challenges with the Managing People and Organizations course, a new, stand-alone option that is part of the TxEEE Master’s in Engineering Management (MEM) degree program. Participants will attend class with students enrolled in the MEM weekend program and are eligible to receive graduate level credit for course completion.

The Managing People and Organizations course pulls from social science frameworks to help students understand and apply effective leadership and management strategies for working with others in organizations. The course meets on five Saturdays in Spring 2026. It is taught by internationally recognized University of Texas at Austin Professor John Daly who holds positions with the UT McCombs School of Business and the UT Moody College of Communication. Professor Daly is a student favorite among the Engineering Management team of instructors and has won multiple teaching awards.

Course Information

Spring 2026 Course Dates: Jan. 24, Feb. 21, March 7, April 4, April 18

Course Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Fee: $5000

CEUs: University graduate credit through UT University Extension is available.

Location: Course meets in person on UT Campus, and is also available synchronously with live instruction.

Course format: Five one-day modules; combination of readings, lectures, and experiential exercises; mandatory attendance; graded on quizzes, a team paper, reflection notes, and class participation.

Course Instructor

John Daly

Professor John Daly is the Liddell Centennial Professor of Communication, University Distinguished Teaching Professor, and TCB Professor of Management at the University of Texas (Austin). He holds appointments with both the UT Moody College of Communication and the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin.  Professor Daly has won every major undergraduate teaching award at the university over the tenure of his career.

He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on topics such as Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Behavior, Crisis Management, and Advocacy and Persuasion.  Professor Daly is known for his dynamic teaching style that keeps the subject matter intriguing and engaging. Because of the rigor of the Managing People and Organizations course, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least 18 months of professional work experience.
