Engineering Management Degree Becomes Tenth Program Globally to Be Certified by ASEM
Providing students with an immediate, recognized professional credential in addition to their master’s degree, Texas Engineering Executive Education (TxEEE) achieved formal certification by the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) for its Engineering Management program in April 2023.
The approval provides UT Engineering Management graduates with a direct path to professional certification as a Certified Associate in Engineering Management® (CAEM®) or a Certified Professional in Engineering Management (CPEM®). Graduates seeking CAEM or CPEM credentials from non-credentialed programs must pass a certifying exam and complete their engineering management degree.
“This designation is an important point of distinction for our Engineering Management master’s degree program, complementing the prestige of the Cockrell School’s top-10 ranked graduate program,” said Woodrow W. Winchester, III., CPEM, executive director of TxEEE. “Our graduates have a competitive advantage, given the value of their degree that represents the highest standards in engineering and technology management professional education.
To qualify for certification, ASEM completes a comprehensive review of the Engineering Management curriculum, ensuring that established program standards in faculty, curriculum, admission and administrative support are met. UT’s Engineering Management program graduates can now display their electronic badge degree credentials on resumes, email and similar digital communications.
“With an increasing number of companies moving their headquarters to Texas and to the Central Texas area in particular, there is a growing demand for highly skilled managers to lead engineering and technical teams,” said Art Markman, the university’s vice provost for academic affairs. “With the ASEM certification, UT is providing a pipeline of engineering managers ready to tackle today’s challenges and lead the work of building future-focused solutions.”
